Sodium & Osteoporosis

Reducing sodium could have the same effect on preventing osteoporosis in post-menopausal women as an increase in calcium intake of 900mg per day.

A UK study concluded that the amount of calcium lost as a result of eating a high-sodium diet can be up to 900mg a day.

Most dietary sodium in the US diet comes from foods to which salt has been added during preparation – in restaurants – or during processing. Ready meals can contain up to 7g/7000mg of salt, more than twice the recommended daily amount.

Save money on supplements by opting for fresh food where possible.
