reduce fat mayo

Q. I want to lose weight for my holiday. I usually just have a sandwich for lunch, but I like having real mayo – I don’t like the one with reduced fat.
Will this slow my weight loss?

A. In order lose weight you need to reduce your intake of fat to about 25-30g a day. Just 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise contains 110 calories and 12g of fat, which leaves very little fat for the rest of the day.

If you can’t switch to fat-free mayo (10 calories per tablespoon) then try mixing it, half and half, with the full-fat version. You will save 55 calories and 6g fat per tablespoon.

Also, try other sauces like flavoured mustards, horseradish, ketchup, salsa, barbecue or chutney.

Remember: In order to lose weight and keep it off, we need to change our eating habits.
