Hyperthyroidism, or an overactive thyroid happens when they thyroid produces to much thyroxine.
The excess hormone speeds up body functions, causes increased heart rate, tremors, sweating, anxiety and insomnia. Food gets burned up too quickly and weight is lost.

Hyperthyroidism and Food
If you suffer from hyperthyroidism or an overactive thyroid, you should eat more protein, wholegrain cereals, foods rich in Vitamin C, like oranges and kiwifruit.
Foods which suppress thyroid activity are cabbage, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, soya beans and should be eaten regularly.
