Fasting to Lose Weight
Fasting is not a healthy way to lose weight. Prolonged fasts deplete levels of protein, calcium, phosphorus, sodium, and potassium in your body. Fasting may also cause a build up of ketones (elements produced when body fats are broken down) in the bloodstream. This runs contrary to the fad idea that diet fasting helps to “cleanse the system.”
Fasting to Lose Weight Fast
Some people use fasting to get quick weight loss results. But fasting is definitely not an effective way to lose weight fast! Our body simply slows down it’s metabolism and prepares to survive on a greatly reduced calorie intake. It perceives fasting as starvation. Thus weight loss is unlikely.
