Xenical Can Assist Weight LossThe importance of long-term weight management to achieve significant weight loss and improvement to associated health risks such as coronary heart disease has been reinforced by a new study of Xenical, the lipase inhibitor that limits fat absorption in the digestive tract. Steady Weight Loss and Waist reductionThe results of the study show that the obesity medication Xenical (orlistat) assists patients to maintain steady weight loss and lose up to 10.8cm from their waist if the weight management plan is maintained for a year. Excess fat around the waist is associated with insulin resistance - a known risk factor for type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol levels and high blood pressure. (Waist measurements over 102cms for men and 88cms for women can cause serious health complications.) Xenical Weight Loss Pills StudyThe 12 month study of 430 overweight men and women (Body Mass Index of 30-43 kg/m2), was designed to assess the effectiveness of Xenical in patients who are responsive to treatment. Patients who achieved five per cent (approximately 5kg) weight loss after three months and maintained this after a further three months of Xenical treatment, were followed for one year. During this time weight loss and other health improvements, such as reductions in blood pressure, were assessed.
Xenical Weight Loss Pills Study - CommentsCommenting on the results, lead study investigator Professor Hermann Toplak from the Karl-Franzens-Universität, Graz, Austria said:
UK Obesity LevelsIn the UK, 18% of the UK adult population are classified as obese (body mass index (BMI)>30kg/m2) 6 - 20% of women and 17% of men. The prevalence of obesity has been on the increase over the last twenty years and continues to soar. If current trends continue, more than a quarter of British adults will be obese within 8 years.
