The US Surgeon General has indicated that obesity may soon rival smoking as the leading cause of premature death in the USA.

Here are some examples of how excess weight can affect your health risk.

  • Obesity is a principal risk factor in type 2 diabetes.
  • Obesity is a major contributing factor to cardiovascular disease, such as heart disease, high blood pressure and strokes, and breast cancer.
  • Obesity is associated with high cholesterol.
