| Q.
Which are the healthiest fats or oils?
At present, mono-unsaturated fat/oil is believed to be better at lowering bad cholesterol (LDL) while ignoring good cholesterol (HDL) than poly-unsaturated fat. However, poly-unsaturated fats include the family of omega 3 and omega 6 fats, known as essential fatty acids. Unrefined Oils are Best In general, the less refined it is, the better. Chemically processed oils are quite different from mechanically pressed oils (much better), and since pesticides often gather in oils, organic oils are best.
Note: From a weight loss viewpoint, all oils are equally fattening. (120 calories/tbsp) |
